The Autumn Takayama Festival, a designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will be held on October 9th and 10th. Preparations for the festival have begun in Takayama City, and flags have been displayed at Takayama Station. The festival originated in the Sengoku to early Edo period. The prototype of large floats called yatai appeared around 1718 (the third year of the Kyoho era). The floats are gorgeous and decorated with intricate mechanical dolls and carvings. Rikka Takayama has six apartments and four rental buildings within walking distance of Sakurayama Hachiman Shrine, where the Autumn Takayama Festival is held, and the old townscape. Enjoy the traditional townscape and culture of Hida Takayama.
